Kickstarter: Deadfellas: Monsters vs the Mob. A novel

I really, really want this Kickstarter to be funded.

The author, G. Xavier Robillard is a man I knew as a child.  We were born in the same year and grew up in the very same somewhat insular neighborhood, so we went to school together.  We weren’t really friends, and I don’t know why.  We weren’t enemies at all, we just didn’t run in the same circles. He moved to the other side of the country at some point after high school, but we friended each other on Facebook a few years ago and since, I have been kicking myself in the behind for not having “friended” him as children.  We seem to have a lot in common, geekwise.

The setting is based on the area we grew up in and where I still live, so that would be interesting enough to me. Add to that the element of supernatural that I love, coupled with a mobster story and I am intrigued.

Just reading the blurb on it has me giddy:

“A Long Island mobster sets off a turf war with a gang of undead criminals led by a hipster vampire. Say hello to my little fiend.

I’ve also read Robillard’s first novel Captain Freedom: A Superhero’s Quest for Truth, Justice, and the Celebrity He So Richly Deserves and found that to be highly entertaining.  The man can write, and goddamn is he funny.

Did I mention that he runs the humor site “All Day Coffee” (

So, I pledged a few bucks to this Kickstarter as soon as I could after my power was restored from Superstorm Sandy. With just 6 days left, I hope I’ve inspired someone else too as well. I just know this book will be special.
